Nail It: Guide Into Nail Polishes/Must-Have Nail Polishes

Hi everyone,

This post is dedicated to all my young readers who want to be able to do all kinds of nail polish designs without having to spend a lot of money. I'm going to tell you the Top 7 "Must-Have" nail polishes for every newbie nail polish junkie. These are 7 basic nail polishes that every nail polish collector has. Also, they are the most versatile nail polishes and you can make numerous fun designs with them.

Clear Nail Polish

You literally CAN'T go without a good clear nail polish. This piece is literally the core of any nail polish collection. You may have to try a few ones until you find the one that works best for you. Also, invest in a good clear nail polish because you can really get your money's worth out of it. It can be used as:
         -  base coat which will protect your nails from discoloration and breakage and will also make your nail polish stay on longer.
         -  top coat which will give a beautiful shine to your design and will protect it from chipping.

! Quick tip: You can also purchase a nail hardener which also contains vitamins. This way you can also make your nails stronger and healthier.

Black Striper (nail polish with a think brush)

A striper is definitely a MUST. You can get it in any color, but I would suggest black, because with this color you can make almost every possible design. Another good alternative would be a white striper, but still I believe black is a better alternative.
! Quick tip: Ask to see the stripe of the nail polish before you buy it and make sure the brush is really, really thin. This way you can be more precise and your designs will end up very delicate. The striper is also very useful because you can clean the brush and use it for another nail polish.
When looking at the brush also notice the consistency: the nail polish should not be thick and it should not make long thin strings when you pull it out. This means that the polish is not new ant it will harden very soon.

Glitter Nail Polish

The glitter polish is a very versatile product. It can easily add a little sparkle to your look and you don't need any drawing abilities to use it. Also, you can use it to all small highlights on certain parts of your manicure.

But how to choose the right glitter nail polish?
- Easy, if you don't want to buy many glitter nail polishes invest in one that doesn't have an undertone. Go with something neutral like silver or maybe multicolor. Go for something like this:

White Nail Polish

This is a pretty secure investment. You can use it in a lot of different designs and it will be worth the money. Also, I suggest buying a regular nail polish instead of a striper for a few reasons:
        - stripers dry faster, so this will last you longer.
        - it is more likely to use white for a base than black (because black is really hard to remove), so you won't have to clean another brush so often.
! Quick tip: Swatch the color before you buy it and make sure it's not transparent. I did a big mistake once and I really regret buying this particular nail polish:

Every nail polish collector has to have a few solid colors. By solid I mean: no shimmer, no glitter, no sparkle- just color. I will suggest the three best colors you definitely should include in your collection. These are the most used colors in nail art and you will definitely be able to create and re-create many designs with them.

Red Nail Polish

The first basic color is red. There are hundreds of shades out there and you can choose a color which you like best. However, if you want to buy a red nail polish which can be used a lot, I would recommend buying a red polish which is not too bold and not too subtle, because red polish is meant to be bold and eye catching, but sometimes is can be really hard to pull off. Try something like these:

Pink Nail Polish

Which color is more associated with elegance, girlishness and cuteness  than pink. Everything from bubblegum pink to rose pink and hot pink works. However, go for lighter shades of pink- these are the ones that are included in most nail polish designs. This is because they create a nice and soft canvas which will flatter even the boldest design. Try shades like this:
And here a few inspirational designs:

Purple Polish

Purple, purple, purple! Ooh, this is by far one of my favorite nail polish colors. It is literally a chameleon color: it can look soft and sweet and with just a few details it can turn into a sexy and seductive manicure. Again, the shades are endless and here you can go in two different directions:
        - Neutral: When in doubt- go safe! This is full-proof. Go for shades which are soft and more towards pink. They will suit any style and will make your nails appear longer.
        - Bold: However, if you are tired of neutral and just want to add some colors into your collection then just go and grab a dark, gothic shade of purple. The color has to be colder and it will definitely make your nails pop.

Quick Tip For Choosing The Right Shade: If you can't swatch a little on your nail, lay the bottle over your hand and see how the color looks on you: there are many skin shades and some of them have different undertones. Comment if you want a post on this!

OK, girls and guys this is my beginner's guide into nail polishes. Hope you enjoyed reading it. I tried making it as fun for you as I could.
----Let me know what your nail polish collection includes. Do you have any other suggestions for beginners?
